Region Covered

The training programme does not cover a defined region, but is funded by, and is confined to, HSE South, which covers counties Cork and Kerry. All the training practices and hospitals in the programme are in Co. Cork. A separate programme (the Southwest Programme) is based in the Institute of Technology, Tralee, with training practices in Kerry and adjoining areas of Cork. Day release programmes, training practices and recruitment are separate for the Cork and Southwest programmes.

The Training Scheme moved to its present accommodation in 3 Bloomfield Terrace (part of UCC) on the Western Rd in October 2012 with improved teaching and social facilities. Teaching venues include both the Bloomfield premises, UCC Western Gateway building and the UCC Brookfield Health Sciences Building [BHSC]. It is planned to move the programme offices and teaching facilities to St Mary's Primary Care Centre on the north side of Cork city some time in 2018.
